2005-02-25 - 12:30 p.m. God help me, the writing pangs have started again. Why can I not sit peacefully in front of this computer without having this volcanic urge to vomit words into the little box that Diaryland so generously offers? Does someone make a pill or tablet for this malady, or am I to suffer from litera-hurl eternally? Time will tell… I’m writing another short story. On the way home from DC I made up a story that lasted from somewhere around Tysons Corner all the way to my driveway. I made up the details as I drove and my daughter ate up every bit as we went along. She begged me to write it down, so I am - and I think it’s not half bad. Would you like to read a short bit from it? Yes? Great…mind you…it’s not edited. **** Angelica woke to find herself beneath a curtain of sparkling diamonds. As her eyes cleared she realized that the curtain was actually a canopy of trees overhead and the diamonds were little holes where golden sunlight burst through the green of the canopy to scatter across a moss covered floor. She sat up and looked about. Angelica was in a place she had never seen before. All about her were tall, slender trees with silvery bark and delicate leaves. The floor of what seemed like an endless forest rose and fell in tiny hills and valleys that were covered in a soft green moss, which sparkled like it was festooned with millions of little emeralds. The scene was beautiful beyond anything she had ever seen and so she didn’t feel much frightened by being in such an unfamiliar place. Angelica stood and turned around to try and get a bearing of where she was. Turning opened an entirely new scene to her; behind her an entire valley opened up. The hill she stood on gradually slopped down to a picturesque little pond, which was covered with enormous Lilly pads and framed with all kinds of grasses and cat tails. Another hill rose up behind the pond to form the valley where the little pond lived. Angelica walked down to the edge of the pond and found a path through the tall grass that allowed her to navigate to the waters edge. She kneeled at the edge of the water and cupped her hand to bring some water to her mouth to drink. The water was cool and sweet and filled her with happiness the second it passed her lips. Feeling refreshed she stood and looked out into the pond. An unexpected sight greeted her as she gazed out over the surface of the water and she was taken aback. **** That was just one short section from the middle. It’s about fairies and stuff.
