2005-02-28 - 10:34 a.m. I like to read Dooce.com If you've been reading this, you already know that. Anyway, I was reading her husband's site and something struck me: all the comments they get. Heather may get over 600 comments on a photo she did or a blog she posted. And the comments will often be the most inane things, like, "Oooh, cute." Why would someone bother to do this? Why would you take the time to write "Ooh, cute." when 500 other people have written the same comment? I feel like people are trying to attach themselves to someone who is experiencing their 15 seconds of fame in hopes that they will also get 15 seconds. Or maybe it's an attempt to stay connected with someone who might make it big, so they can say, "I knew her when..." or, "Hey Heather, I've been writing 'Ooh, cute' on your site since before you made it big. That makes us friends, right?" Is it: People need to be validated by someone they feel is important. Is it: People need to feel validated. Is it: I have no life. Why do I care?
