2005-05-09 - 8:41 a.m. What's the deal with human frailty? People seem to be so...weak willed when it comes to dealing with one another. I know that I cannot be the only person on the face of our slowly revolving globe that realizes that we are a community of people. Why can't people step outside of themselves for just a moment and see things from someone else’s point of view, while not getting caught up wholly in that point of view? Empathy is the key to making this world a better, safer place. I try, so very hard, to see every situation from every side that I can conceive of before acting or deciding. Something as simple as flipping another person off in traffic, because you perceive they meant to make your life difficult is a testament to how selfish we are as people and how we lack empathy and a spirit of community. (This did not happen to me recently...it's just an example.) If I could change anything in life, if I were god for a day, I would endow every person with empathy and I would instill everyone with a sense of community, both locally and globally. I'm a dreamer.
