Ah, the enigma of steel – do you know it boy? Would you like me to tell you? It’s the least I can do.

Steel is not strong; Kenney Rogers is stronger; look at the strength of his songs. Do you remember when Hollywood made a TV movie of the week based solely upon the lyrics of his song Coward of the County – THAT is strength! THAT is power!

Kenney Rogers gave us these things.

So, for those of you who have been reading this “journal” for some time now (By the way…why ARE you still here?), you know that I changed gas stations a while back. I do miss Serial Killer Lady, but the move was necessary. I have been purchasing my gas at a Sheets station since then, as it’s along my trek to work, the gas is pretty cheap, and they make decent coffee.

This morning’s visit was a special treat.

I gassed up and went in to get the usual (Lg. Regular coffee, lots of milk, two raw sugars) and decided to grab one of the blueberry scones from the Krispy Kream display. I got to the check out, set my stuff down and said to Flo (she looks like a Flo), “Pump 2 and I’ve got a scone in the bag.”

“You’re the first person to come in and know whut them thangs is called.” She drawls through her crooked lipstick.

“Oh, yeah…uh…I used to work at a Starbucks,” I reply, like a dumbass.

“Oh, so you know whut this thang is,” she motions to the dusty espresso machine to her left.

Raising an eyebrow, “I didn’t even know you had one of those things.”

“Yeah,” She says, “Them thangs [espresso drinks] is real expensive, so we don’t really sell none.”

Oh, Sheets…cookie cutter marketing. I can hear them now, “There will be espresso machines and scones in EVERY Sheets station regardless of demographic or the fact that the customers may not even know what a scone is! We’ll change the world!”

(Cut to scene in gas station)

Trucker 1: Hey Billy!
Trucker 2: Hey Phil…whut you got there?
Trucker 1: Oh, yeah…this here’s one them scones.
Trucker 2: Ah whut?
Trucker 1: Ah s-k-o-n-e…s’posed ta be purty good.

(Next day)

Trucker 1: Phillip, Old man – how are you today?
Trucker 2: Fabulous William and you? How IS your family?
Trucker 1: Wonderful. Say, how about a macchiato and a cinnamon scone? My treat.
Trucker 2: Smashing idea.
Trucker 1: Bully!

Ah luv culcher.
